ABOUT US
Our Commitment To Excellence
The Virginia Slaughter House Club is located in Smithfield, VA. Our membership is open to kids from all areas of Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hampton, Chesapeake, Newport News, and beyond). Our primary goal is to teach sound wrestling skills, while emphasizing respect, good sportsmanship, character, and class.
We generally practice 1-4 days a week depending on grade, group, season, and skill and encourage our young wrestlers to compete in local, regional, state and some national events regularly throughout the season. Our practices consist of an intense physical workout, extensive drilling, and live wrestling.
Our goal is to build one of the most competitive youth clubs in the state. This will be done through discipline, dedication, and perseverance from the wrestlers, coaches, and parents. Respect, honesty, integrity and good sportsmanship are a must for all wrestlers. We strive to build champions on and off the mat. There is a zero tolerance policy for bad sportsmanship. It will not be tolerated. It was said best by Dan Gable “once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy”.
OUR FACILITY
The club is located in an over 8000 square foot room filled with over three full mats of wrestling space. The room also has weight equipment, cardio equipment, ropes, rings, Jacobs ladder, medicine balls, slam balls, tires, pull up bars, weights sled, training bands, and much more to keep the wrestlers in top shape year-round. Our address is 13490 Benns Church Blvd Smithfield, VA 23430.

Practices:
Practice schedules will be posted as soon as the schedule is completed. It is very important wrestlers attend all scheduled practices on time and ready to go on the mat at their designated time. (This includes shoes tied and headgears on). Practices will have all the following elements: (1) conditioning,20 – 30 minutes at the beginning of practice, VERY IMPORTANT, (2) review of basic skills/drills, (3) introduction to the new skills/drills, (4) “live” wrestling matches, (5) cool down time, or “structured” game time (if time permits). Practices will include all these elements and will be based on the skill level of the wrestlers that are participating in that practice session. Your wrestler will be paired at times with a more experienced wrestler; this will enable less experienced wrestlers more experience that will assist them in tournaments. As in tournaments, practice sessions will require that wrestlers be paired according to division, age, and skill level. If a wrestler is unable to attend a practice, please notify a coach in advance so that we can prepare for this prior to practice. Practice is closed to ALL parents. Please drop your kids off 15 min prior to the start of practice in order to give them time to change into their wrestling gear. Multiple coaches are CPR / First Aid Certified and all coaches will have background checks. (New wrestler’s parents can stay in the room for the first week of practice only). Please pick up your child promptly at the end of any practice session.
